Meet Our Pastor!

I’m Robbie Severson, Lead Pastor at Hillside Community Church. I have 3 kids. Micah (15), Carson (13), and Brynna (11), and Dakota (3). AND an amazing wife (Julianne) of almost 20 years. We love to camp, watch movies, and be together as a family.

I studied and received my degree from Crown College in MN and am ordained with the Christian and Missionary Alliance. Prior to being in Vermillion my family was in Missoula, MT. I started my first pastorate as a youth pastor in Missoula in 2004 and we were in Missoula in various roles in ministry until 2020.

My favorite part of Vermillion so far is the small-town living. Knowing people everywhere you go. No traffic. A town that shows up to events...and Hy-Vee breakfast.

Random fact?I love a good pedicure (don't knock it till you try it).

What can you find me doing on a Saturday? On Saturdays you can find me with my family. Hanging out. Eating good food. Camping. Hiking. Walking the dog.

Favorite Book of the Bible? My favorite book of the Bible is…this is a hard one…I like them all.  I would say…Ephesians.

What are you looking forward to at Hillside this year? I am looking forward to Hillside continuing to grow in their love for God, His people, and the lost.  AND…deeper community.

Hey, I’m Robbie!

I’m Jim Wilson, Pastor of Ministries at Hillside Community Church. I have two kids - Ruby (16) and Jack (13). And my wonderful wife (Jolene) of almost 20 years. We love spending time together as a family and are happy to be in Vermillion and South Dakota!

I studied and received my degree from Simpson University in CA where I received my bachelor's degree in Pastoral Studies. I grew up in the San Francisco bay area and spent all but 4 years in California.

My favorite part of Vermillion so far is the space and pace. Coming from an over-crowded, hectic state like California I really appreciate the Midwest culture.

Random fact? I was named the Drivers Education Student of the Year after scoring a perfect 100% on every assignment and test. I then went on to fail my actual written test…

An extra fun fact for ya: My friends and I dressed up as the Backstreet Boys for Halloween one year, called ourselves the Birchstreet Boys (because our church was on Birch St.), and performed a Christian satire version of "I want it God's way" for our Youth Group. It went so well that despite our obviously poor singing we were asked to perform at a number of church events over the next 2 years.

What can you find me doing on a Saturday? Playing disc gulf.

Favorite Book of the Bible? Genesis.

What are you looking forward to at Hillside this year? I’m looking forward to getting to know everyone while seeing how God is going to use Hillside to further His Kingdom here in Vermillion.

Hey, I’m Jim!
